HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – The Stronach Group announced today that Bill Badgett, former General Manager of Gulfstream Park and current President of the Florida Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, will rejoin the company effective immediately in the capacity of Executive Director, Florida Racing Operations. 

“We are thrilled that Bill will be returning to lead our 1/ST Racing operations in Florida,” said Craig Fravel, Chief Executive Officer, 1/ST Racing. “Florida is a key priority for our company and Bill’s daily presence and expertise will be instrumental as we grow our racing program with the highest of integrity and modern-thinking.”

Badgett will be charged with building on and establishing critical reforms in Florida and on developing relationships with horsemen and key industry stakeholders in the state.  

“I am excited to be returning to the company and look forward to building on the success of the 1/ST Racing program here in Florida,” said Bill Badgett. “Together with Mike Lakow, Vice President of Racing Operations at Gulfstream Park, our focus will be on setting a new competitive standard for Florida Thoroughbred racing that is in lock step with 1/ST’s vision to achieve the highest level of horse and rider care and safety.”

Badgett maintained close ties with The Stronach Group since his departure in September 2019 acting as an advisor on the company’s premier Florida events, including the Carribbean Classic and the Pegasus World Cup Championship Invitational Series. In his previous role with The Stronach Group, Badgett is credited with contributing to the success of Gulfstream Park’s racing operations program and in developing important relationships with the horsemen and backstretch team.
